Design Process Basics, A Year 7 Poster Project

(0)
A Simple Guide to the basics of a design process, gathering reference imagery, developing a colour pallet, sketching illustrations and logos. I use this with my year 7s sometimes as a way to embed the basic steps of any art and design project. I work with them in Illustrator but you can edit those bits to suit whatever media you’re working in.

Perfect for a one off, or cover lesson, a change of pace from other topics, or a way to introduce observational sketching into an art & design or D&T scheme of work. The resource contains a Power-Point and two sided hand-out for students detailing the lesson objectives. A teacher hand-out, great if you want to use the resources as a cover lesson.

Fauvism Cover Lesson

This is a two page hand out you can use as a cover lesson or as a starting point for a series of art and design lessons looking at Fauvism. The download includes an A4 PDF for easy printing, and the Adobe Illustrator build file so you can make edits if you need to. Ive also included JPEGs of the pages so you can preview them, or easily drop them into other resources you’re building. The lesson is broken down into: Context; giving an overview of Fauvism, and some of its key artists. Task; gives students clear instructions and key style points to include to achieve a Fauvist look and asthetic. Character, underlines the soft skills the students will be using alongside their designing skills . Equipment; covers what they’ll need from you and what to grab out of their pencil cases. Assessment; Key areas the students can use to self and peer assess their work are included and could be your plenary, or a starter prior to moving on to further related work. If you like this free resource then let the world know by leaving a review, cheers.

Drawing Roly from Hey Duggee in Adobe Illustrator

(1)
This is a Free annotated video (With no Audio, you’re welcome) guide to drawing Roly from Hey Duggee. I do this with my year 7s as part of our graphics DT rotation. The video is pretty comprehensive, but some familiarity with Illustrator would help, especially when it comes to fault finding. The video covers using : Shape Tools Line Segment Tool Corner Widgets Selection Tools Shape Builder Tool Eye Dropper Tool Duplicating shapes Manipulating Anchor Points (A bit) When I teach this I usually run through a demo of the process live, then give students access to the video so they can all go at their own pace, working independently, following the annotations. I’ll be making a payed version of this resource soon with added worksheets, and a teacher video with ways to fix as many student generated errors as I can think of. If you like this free resource please consider purchasing one of my payed ones. You can get in touch with questions or resource requests via my Instagram, link in my shop profile.
